Why I-PASS Assist?
Due to up-front costs and ongoing financial responsibilities required of customers to both obtain and keep I-PASS accounts in good standing, too often it is those who can least afford it who are unable to obtain or retain these benefits.
For this reason, the Illinois Tollway expanded the I-PASS Assist program to enable more customers to attain and retain the benefits of I-PASS, while implementing additional measures intended to reduce the impact that transportation costs have on low-income households.
How Does It Work?
In partnership with the Illinois Department of Revenue and the Illinois Department of Human Services, the Illinois Tollway verifies household eligibility through a secure web form. This determines whether household income falls below the required threshold or if households are currently participating in SNAP or TANF.
Once a customer qualifies, the Tollway works directly with them to provide a transponder and set up their account. The Tollway will continue working with customers to help keep accounts in good standing, giving those in need a better opportunity to retain the benefits of I-PASS.
