WHY I-PASS ASSIST?
Due to up-front costs and ongoing financial responsibilities required of customers to both obtain and keep I-PASS accounts in good standing, too often it is those who can least afford it who are unable to obtain or retain these benefits.
It is for this reason, the Illinois Tollway expanded the Tollway’s I-PASS Assist program, to enable more customers to attain and retain the benefits of I-PASS, while implementing additional measures intended to mitigate the disparate impact that transportation costs have on low income households.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
In partnership with the Illinois Department of Revenue and the Illinois Department of Human Services, the Illinois Tollway is able to verify the eligibility of households via a secure web form to determine if household income falls below the required threshold or if households are currently participating in SNAP or TANF.
Once a customer qualifies, the Tollway works directly with the customer to provide a transponder and set up their account. And thereafter, the Tollway will work with customers to keep their accounts in good standing so those struggling have a better chance of retaining the benefits of I-PASS!
